Welcome to our APPLICATE website. Are you a new member or just interested in how the project works? We’ll give you a quick overview of what the website and project are about, and where to find what.
First things first, what is the APPLICATE project about? Well, the overarching goal of APPLICATE is to develop enhanced predictive capacity for weather and climate in the Arctic and beyond and to determine the influence of Arctic climate change on Northern Hemisphere mid-latitudes, for the benefit of policymakers, businesses and society.
To further dive into some of the most important aspects of the project, click in the About-section on “key questions”. All important information is summarized in short answers.
How is APPLICATE organized?
Since APPLICATE is bringing together the expertise and know-how of 16 partners from 9 countries who contribute to the project, and considering the size of the Consortium, the organizational structure of APPLICATE needs to be extremely efficient. To find out more about the projects partner and the management structure.
From all these partner institutions, scientists have different responsibilities and working tasks. Some of them lead the work packages, others contribute with their scientific research to the outcomes for the work packages.
If you had a browse, you might have seen the section “work packages”. Now, if you want to join APPLICATE, you should have a read about the different work packages, their tasks and aims. As the objective of enhancing predictive capacity for weather and climate in the Arctic and beyond is very far-reaching, different work packages with various tasks are needed to achieve it. Go ahead and have a read what the nine different work packages are about.
The project is divided into three periods (1 November 2016 to 30 April 2018, 1 May 2018 to 31 October 2019, and 1 November 2019 to 31 October 2020). Within 60 calendar days from the end of each period, the project Consortium will submit a periodic report to the European Commission. The periodic report is composed of a scientific report and a financial report. If you are not sure how to organize your part of the report, please contact Luisa or check the templates made available on Dropbox.
The Management organization of APPLICATE
To achieve the objectives set at the beginning of the project, every management level is responsible for completing certain tasks. The task leader, for example, is responsible for leading and coordinating the work required and for the timely delivery of the results.
The work package leaders are responsible for controlling and supervising the work required for reporting progress to the Executive Board.
The project coordinator is responsible for accepting the final outcomes, adds recommendations if necessary and has authority and responsibility for quality management. The Project Coordinator for APPLICATE is Thomas Jung (AWI).
The project manager is in charge of completing the result and uploading it to the website as well as finalizing the deliverable and for submission to the European Commission and this has the authority of final acceptance. The project manager for APPLICATE is Luisa Cristini (AWI).
