APPLICATE contributes to the EU Arctic cluster to advance our ability to understand changes in the Arctic and their global consequences. The Arctic is warming at almost twice the global average rate. This has dramatic environmental, economic and societal implications, which are likely to extend beyond the high latitudes with global consequences and risks. Recognizing the need to address challenges the Polar Regions and elaborate appropriate policies, including those relating to climate change, sustainable development and innovation, the EU has invested in several projects focusing on the Arctic, the EU Arctic Cluster, with the aim to understand Arctic environmental changes and their global implications.
