Description:

Work Package 4 has four primary objectives:

  • To derive recommendations for the design of the future observing system in the Arctic by examining the spatio temporal variability of key climatic variables and linkages as represented in current systems and by dedicated numerical experiments representing enhanced systems
  • To assess the impact of Arctic observations (type, coverage, frequency) on the skill of coupled predictions from medium to seasonal time scales
  • To produce recommendations for a coupled experimentation strategy and for the set up observing system experiments for YOPP and its consolidation phase
  • To produce recommendations for future coupled reanalysis system design in support of the Year of Polar Prediction (YOPP) related to (1) analysis system set-up and (2) observational data usage

Work package 4 is led by Peter Bauer from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and Thierry Fichefet from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL)
